Activities
“After touring three weeks through Sri Lanka in marvellous places, this was the top! Not only the setting, the wonderful architecture, but especially the extremely dedicated and efficient staff.” Jas Brumague, Brussels, Belgium
On the Property:
With the reef-protected beach only a few metres from the property wall, there are endless possibilities for beach fun. Sand castles, body boarding, surfing and swimming will keep you entertained for hours in the sun. Or spend your days lying by the pool reading or swimming. A large garden provides a virtual playground for games of cricket and football. Or sit and play cards in one of the pavilions enjoying the view!
Surrounding Area:
Numerous watersports are on offer in Unawatuna and Mirissa including sailing, fishing, coastal cruises, river trips, sea kayaking, snorkeling, and boating. Surfing at Weligama can be enjoyed for a couple of hours where local instructors and boards may be hired by the hour. Koggola Lake with its many islands inhabited with several species of birds, is another wonderful experience. Day trips can be organized to Sinharaha Rainforest and Yala National Park. Further South near Matara it is possible to go whale and dolphin watching. Cycle rides through the paddy fields are a wonderful way to sample Sri Lankan life inland.
We recommend a visit to the historic 17th Century Galle Fort, – one of the largest ‘living’ forts in the world which is enjoying an artistic renaissance. Strolling around this UNESCO World Heritage Site with its narrow streets lined with Dutch and British colonial era buildings, sturdy ramparts looking out to sea, the lighthouse and a growing collection of art galleries, jewellery shops and boutiques is a great way to while away a few hours.
